Natalie Rae is an award-winning director from Vancouver, Canada, based in Los Angeles.
Her debut feature documentary DAUGHTERS, the culmination of a 8 year journey, premiered at Sundance last year, where it was awarded both the U.S. Documentary Audience Award and the Festival Favorite Award. The film, described by IndieWire as “a 10-ton wrecking ball in motion”, was acquired by Netflix and continues to win awards and plaudits, with Variety including it in its list of Best Movies of 2024. Natalie just won Best New Documentary Filmmaker at the Critics Choice Awards, was nominated for Best Documentary at the 2025 DGA Awards and the 2025 BAFTA Awards and made the Oscar short list.
Natalie’s passion for social impact story-telling started when she a child, making short documentaries throughout her life. Since then she’s emerged as a multi-faceted director, quickly becoming an award winning commercial and music video director.
She has directed commercial campaigns for clients including Nike, Adidas, and Lululemon, and has been twice nominated for the Young Director Award at the Cannes Lions. She has directed global PSA’s for organizations such as United Nations Women, Global Goals and CALM, as well as working with recording artists Jay Z, Drake, Dua Lipa, Leon Bridges and Anderson .Paak.
Her diverse background in producing, writing, dance and fine arts has informed her dimensional approach to storytelling, balancing large-scale stories with intimate human moments, honest grit and artful imagery to create immersive films that feel distinctly of this time.
Natalie is a DOC NYC class of 2024 “40 Under 40” honoree and 2024 BAFTA Breakthrough Artist.
